Moving home is stressful, there’s no getting away from it. Packing up your entire life and relocating it is never going to be a walk in the park, and when you add other stuff into the mix (sorting out energy bills, redirecting the post, updating accounts and so on) it’s no wonder we view house moves as one of life’s most stressful events.
But although they’re never going to be easy, there are a number of things you can do to make them easier. That’s exactly what we’re looking at in this article. So, without further ado, here are five top tips for a stress-free move!
This is where we’d recommend starting. Moving home presents the perfect opportunity to have a clearout and get rid of a lot of items you simply don’t want or use any more. There’s no need to move stuff only to then sell it, charity shop it or throw it away later. Try and get all that out of the way before you move, and you’ll have a lot less to take with you. Having a clearout can be liberating, too!
There’s no substitute for being prepared. So, as soon as you have a move-in date (or a rough timeline for when it’s likely to be, at least), get packing non-essential items as soon as possible.
You need to be able to find all your stuff easily once you get to your new place, so take the time to label all your boxes neatly and summarise what’s inside each of them. It’s also a great idea to note on the box what room it’s meant to be in – your movers will appreciate this!
Self storage is a great way to de-stress the moving process a little. You can rent a unit for as long as you need it, keeping furniture or belongings to one side until you’re ready to move them into your new home. This way, you’ll have less to transport on moving day, making the whole process that much easier. If you’re looking for storage in Peterborough, we have a range of attractive options here at 1st Access.
Check reviews, ask for recommendations, do your research and compare quotes. Whatever it takes for you to feel confident in your moving company, do it. You have to have faith in them, and cheaper isn’t always better in this instance!
There you have it: five quick tips to make your moving day that little bit less stressful. We hope they come in handy for you, and wish you the very best of luck on your big day.
