Moving home is stressful – there’s no way around that. Unless you have the luxury of being able to pay someone to do all your packing and unpacking (which most of us don’t), your moving day is likely to be a gruelling experience.
We’re not here to give you a moving day cheat code. We’re not going to pretend that moving house will be easy and hassle free. But we can give you a handful of tips to make the process a whole lot simpler – tips to help you feel in control at every stage of your house move.
Whether you’ve moved home a number of times before or moving out for the first time, follow the five tips below and your moving day should run smoothly!
Moving house only takes one day, right? Well, yes, it does – but settling in afterwards takes a whole lot longer. Whether you’re downsizing or moving to a larger home, it’ll take you a while to work out where everything needs to go, let alone unpack all of your boxes. So, once you have a moving date, make sure you book plenty of time off work. If possible, we’d recommend taking a working week off to get settled.
There’s no use moving items that you’re not going to want or use. So, before you start packing, we’d recommend having a good clear out. If you don’t use the item regularly or it doesn’t have sentimental value, you probably don’t need it. Try listing items for sale online or, if they’re not worth selling, consider donating them to a local charity.
It’s always worth getting ahead and being prepared when you’re moving home – and one important part of this process is getting a removal quote. Don’t worry if you don’t have a move-in date yet; do your research and find a few local removal companies to get a quote from ahead of time.
The more well organised your belongings are before you move, the easier it will be for you to get unpacked and settle into your new home. Make sure you place similar items together and label each and every box – you’ll be glad you did it!
Got a few pieces of furniture that may or may not fit into your new place? Or, perhaps you have boxes of items you’re not sure about keeping or selling. Self storage is the perfect solution, allowing you to move your items in gradually… which makes moving day much less stressful. Check out our Peterborough self storage services today to find out more.
