New grants available for Covid-hit Peterborough businesses

If your Peterborough business has been negatively impacted by the Covid-19 pandemic, there’s good news: you can now apply for three new grants. The Covid-19 Additional Relief Fund (CARF), Omicron Hospitality and Leisure Grant and the Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG) can now be applied for via the Peterborough City Council website.

Here’s a brief rundown of each grant and who can apply:

Covid-19 Additional Relief Fund (CARF): Although you could previously get business rate relief, this was only possible if you weren’t eligible for other relief schemes like the Extended Retail Discount. No longer is this the case. CARF applications are open to liable ratepayers occupying a business property.
Omicron Hospitality and Leisure Grant: If you run a business in the hospitality, leisure or accommodation sectors, you could receive up to £6,000. Applications are open until 18 March, and you must have been trading on 30 December 2021 and be liable for business rates to be eligible. Head over to the Government website to check your eligibility.
Additional Restrictions Grant (ARG): Intended to support businesses affected specifically by the Omicron variant, this scheme is open to applications until 31 March. If you’re not eligible for the above grants but are liable for business rates, you could receive up to £6,000.

Councillor Andy Coles, Cabinet Member for Finance at Peterborough City Council, said: “We are acutely aware of the difficulties that many businesses in the city have faced throughout the pandemic.

“We are fully committed to helping businesses during these difficult and unprecedented times and know how valuable these grants are to businesses, allowing them to continue to operate and support their employees.

“I would urge any businesses that fall within the eligibility criteria to submit an application for the appropriate scheme at the earliest opportunity.”
